Analyzing the Legacy of the Holocaust Through Art
Summary and Rationale:
In this multi-day lesson, students will explore how artists impacted by the Holocaust conveyed themes of suffering, resilience, and memory through a variety of visual media. Students will analyze the messages communicated through art, exploring how elements such as composition, color, and imagery shape viewers' interpretations and experiences. Students will then synthesize, demonstrate, and extend their knowledge of the Holocaust and its legacy by producing an original work of art, poetry, music, or another composition.

Suggested Grade Levels: 8th Grade-10th Grade
Time Required: 6-8 hours

RL.9-10.7 - Analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment.
